Training Programme on MSP430 Ultra Low Power Microcontroller

One Day Training Programme on MSP430 Ultra Low Power Microcontroller
27th FEBRUARY 2013
ORGANISED BY IEEE STUDENT BRANCH
DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
ANNA UNIVERSITY
REGIONAL CENTRE, COIMBATORE
Mettupalayam Road, Jothipuram
Coimbatore – 641 047

MSP430 is an ultra low-power 16-bit microcontroller family from Texas Instruments. The MSP430 can be used for low powered embedded devices. The top CPU speed is 25  MHz. It can be throttled back for lower power consumption. The MSP430 also uses six different lowpower  modes, which can disable unneeded clocks and CPU. This allows the MSP430 to sleep, while its peripherals continue to work without the need for an energy hungry processor. Additionally, the MSP430 is capable of wake-up times below 1 microsecond, allowing the microcontroller to stay in sleep mode longer,
minimizing its average current consumption.

SCOPE OF THE TRAINING

The training  program on Texas Instruments MSP430 Microcontrollers is devoted to deeper understanding of MSP430 and MSP430FG4618 microcontrollers architecture,  features, peripherals and development tools. It also highlights their applications in industrial sector. The goal
of this training program  is to bring together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to focus on TI MSP430 microcontroller and  to  provide hands on training with the experimenter boards.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED

• Introduction MSP430.
• Introduction to the MSP EXP430F5438 board.
• MSP430F5438 Memory map.
• Understand the MSP430 TIMER operation.
• Understand the MSP430 Analog to Digital converter (ADC).
• Embedded Applications using MSP430.
• Hands on demo using MSP430.
